Grayson Jenkins reinvents and reflects on nostalgic ‘Hand Me Downs’ LP.

(November 11, 2020) Kentucky-based singer/songwriter, Grayson Jenkins, is set to release his latest project “Hand Me Downs” on November 24, 2020. The eight-song collection features new recordings of previously released songs, as well as a cover of Kris Kristofferson’s “Just the Other Side of Nowhere.” With his touring band behind him and years of experience in his pocket, Jenkins sounds more confident than ever in his delivery and songs.

“Hand Me Downs is really a chance to say thank you to my family and friends for sticking with me. The artwork, the songs, and the delivery all have a nostalgic vibe,” Jenkins says.

The lead single, “Good Side of Bad”, is a feel-good piece with Grayson’s backing band, The Resolutions, on full display. Vocal and instrumental hooks team up to create a sing-a-long fit for listeners who enjoy country, pop, folk, alternative, and more. In a music climate with blurred genre lines, Jenkins sounds right at home. 

Co-producer, Levi Lowrey, is featured on the album playing fiddle and lending backing vocals on the Kristofferson track “Just the Other Side of Nowhere”. Lowrey, who co-wrote Zac Brown Band’s hit “Colder Weather”, among other charting songs, played an instrumental role in rebooting the songs. Recorded primarily at Lowrey’s Georgia home, the project is cohesive while still offering stylistic variation from track to track. 

The third single and long-time crowd favorite, “Whirl”, features Kentucky songwriter and artist, Abby Hamilton. Grayson and Abby have performed and written together over the past three years around the region. The addition of a female vocal lifts this power ballad into a new realm and harkens back to the radio sounds of 90’s and early 00’s country music. 

As a full-time musician, Grayson has been dealing with the ups and downs of the Covid-19 pandemic. He has made the most of his time off the road by reflecting and refocusing on the reasons he chose a career in music.

“My friends know that I’m kind of a sappy guy,” he laughs, “but I think without this little army behind me and growing up the way I did, I’d have given up on the dream a long time ago. This project is just a chance to revisit that gratitude.”
